"What do you give to someone like Mila to say sorry?" Lucas mused to himself, sat in an area that appeared to be an old food court. He tapped the barrel of his gun against the side of his head for a moment and then glanced to something off to his left. "Flowers are pretty gay and I'm not going down the jewelery route. That's like the ultimate "I'm fucking your best friend but hey, I still wanna tap that ass" gesture. It's the calling card of douchbags." There was a scraping noise and he turned himself fully in his chair, dropping his feet to the floor from where he'd had them propped up on the table in front of him. There, a short distance away and crawling slowly towards him, was the zombie who's leg he'd blown off a few minutes prior.
Now, Lucas wasn't in any way like Alek. He didn't play mind games with his targets and he didn't take any enjoyment out of torturing zombies either. He was a patient man is all, and he had shit he wanted to get off his chest, y'know? What better way to do that than tell it all to someone who's mind you were going to splatter all over a wall afterwards? Yeah, it was clearly a stroke of genius but he wasn't going to boast. What had he told Mila? Don't tell people your weaknesses if you didn't want them used against you? This was exactly the solution. She should've taken a leaf out of his book and stopped being such an uptight bitch about it. Christ, it was in the past right? Considering they were staring down the end of the world it seemed pretty pointless to hold onto something so trivial about the way you lost your virginity. Still, he'd pissed her off to the point that she'd actually decided to leave and...well, for once he felt like a complete shithead. So he was thinking of ways to fix it.
"Maybe she'd want a new gun." He thought then, aiming the one he was holding at the zombie's head, one eye closed for effect before he gave a sigh of exasperation and dropped it back down to his side. "Yeah. A new gun that she'd only shoot me in the face with which is entirely too fucked up, really." He turned then, no hesitation in his movements as he planted a bullet in the zombie's forehead before holstering the gun. Mila would probably get some sick enjoyment from seeing him suffer like this, he had no doubt. Why he didn't just go find her and drag her back to the rig was beyond him; it'd be much easier and less of a hassle. Then again, he knew why he was doing it. Because he really just wanted to find out who she'd been hanging around, only so he could shoot them in the leg and show them why it had been a bad idea to keep her from the "fucked up family" as she'd so affectionately called them. A part of him was actually really looking forward to it.
Running a hand over his face, Lucas ruffled his hair slightly before sighing again. Ah well, it was useless just standing around and letting blood creep up to his boots, so he turned to head in the direction of the closest stores. Maybe he'd find something shiny to tempt her with. She liked shinys.

Not only was she trying to secure passage on a rig, but she was trying to secure passage for herself, and yet another Old Blood. Ma'ali. A dear friend of hers from the Coven, who was just now realizing the evil of the life that they were forced to lead. For a while, she knew that her friend was willing to forget the life that she had led before the Coven, but she was a dreamer at the end of it all. Ma'ali needed to taste freedom; remember the life that she once led. What once made her... her. There was one time when Evie completely understood what she was going through. They would whisper to her to forget the life that she once led; forget the events that plagued her. But, they told her to forget entirely too much. Without those memories, she wouldn't be herself. She wouldn't be the person that those events shaped her to be. While she was a 'leech' and a 'monster' by others standards, she was still very happy with who she was. Many of years had went into becoming this way, and she wasn't about to throw it away, just because the Coven told her to. No. After months of talking, she had finally managed to convince the Coven to allow her to come out to seek out a Devotee for herself. She confessed that the blood of those that didn't love her was growing tiring; that was something that they all understood. So, they let her go. After all, she was a quiet woman that never started any trouble, and was always very receptive to anything and everything that they wished to say to her. For once in her life, she was thankful she had such a timid nature. And now, here she was, still hunting for a Devotee, and still technically a part of the Coven. But that was only in name, and of course, the way that she dressed. A part of her wished that she could just get rid of these awful clothes and blend in... But by hiding what she was, she was hiding herself. And that made her a predator. Someone to be feared. She was old, and from strong blood; she didn't hunger often. And when she did hunger she had more self restraint than Old Bloods a great deal older than her possessed. She was no threat to anyone. But, to make ends meet she had taken up a rather interesting job. She was a self proclaimed hobbyist. She collected many things, from rosaries to corsets, to fine jewelry. While she didn't actively try to sell the goods that she had purchased, she was never opposed to making a deal. Right now, she really needed that money back. She needed some way to finance her new traveling companion tagging along. She sat along the side of the rode, cloak slightly pulled open to reveal the black gown beneath. The hood, however, was up. The cloak itself hid away the way that she looked; a womanchild, turned well before she should have ever tasted immortality. She surveyed the crowd with a haunted look in her eye. There was no longing there. No pity either. Simply a haunted look. She'd wait for someone to come along to show interest in the pieces that she had presented. He'd wandered for a while, looking over the random stores some people had attempted to set up and passing by the smallish stalls others had going. It wasn't that he was a stranger to buying gifts and nice things for women but Mila wasn't just any woman, clearly. Not only that but, as probably everyone knew by now, she couldn't have been more pissed off with him.
He stood in front of one person's set up for a while, his arms folded across his chest while he frowned in thought. There wasn't much of offer that he'd even consider wasting money on and he really was about to lose hope. Until he saw the next "stall" along. It was filled with various things and, most importantly, shiny objects which caught Lucas' interest. Maybe they had something that he could bribe Mila back with.
Sauntering over with an air of someone who was going to completely bypass the stranger, he lingered for a moment to look over what they were selling. One object caught his eye and he crouched down to get a better look. "Question, what's the average price you're looking for?" He asked, not indicating to anything particular since he just wanted to know the price range he'd be expected to spend. Yes, he was buying a gift, but he wasn't going to cripple himself finance-wise just for Mila. He had other stuff he needed to buy while he was here too.
His gaze then went to the person doing the selling and he narrowed his eyes slightly. Instinctively his hand went to rest on his gun and he tilted his head slightly as if to try and see the face beneath the hood. "So, what; allergic to the sun or something?" Lucas asked, not even considering trying to be tactful because obviously that wasn't his style.

She gave him a bit of a smile; a shy one before allowing her eyes to move down the various things. She carried jewelry. Expensive and inexpensive alike. She was always willing to sell, and always willing to buy. Especially considering the fact that most of the money, she was aware, went for helping the Raiders. And, while she hadn't always had the best interaction with them, she knew that, whether they knew it or not, they were doing good. They were restoring life back to the way that it used to be. By the looks of the harsh man that was before her, she could tell that he was a Raider. The scruff on his chin, and the crass way he spoke was a dead giveaway. Especially when he decided that he was going to ask about her 'being allergic to sunlight.' Her eyes moved to the hand that now rested on his gun. She smirked up at him, giving him a light laugh. She shook her head, and smoothed out the velvet that the jewels rested on. " I'm not allergic to sunlight." she smirked. " It's a part of my Order." she said. If he didn't know which order, she wasn't about to express it to him. She narrowed her eyes and looked down at all that she had to offer. " My prices fluctuate." she said, giving him a rather honest expression. " What do you need it for? And how much do you have that you're willing to spend?" It was a strange tactic for a merchant to take. Then again, Evie wasn't just a regular merchant. She was an Old Blood that was living well within her means. Not to mention the fact that she had an affinity for helping out people as much as she could. Including Raiders. "Huh." He grunted, nodding slightly when she mentioned her Order. He hadn't the foggiest about what she was talking about but he was happy to go along with it. "Good to know." Now that he wasn't convinced that she may have been a zombie ready to pounce on him and take a chunk out of his neck, he relaxed somewhat. His hand slipped from his gun and he rested his forearms on his knees, switching his attention back to the jewelery. He knew he'd already told himself that it wasn't an option but...if it got him into her good books?
Her questions made him sigh and he rubbed the back of his head, shrugging gingerly. "Mostly leverage to get myself of of the huge, steaming pile of crap I dropped myself in." Lucas answered candidly, giving a snort of amusement at his own lameness. "As for a guide price," He chewed his lip for a moment and gave a noise of thought. "I'd say I could spend a hundred, easy. But it'll depend on how much I think it's worth."
He was being honest when he answered, because what did he really have to lose? Picking up a ring he inspected it for a moment and then pulled a face. "I'm guessing you know your jewelry. What do..strong, independent, can't-be-bought women like?"

She wondered if he even knew what the hell she had meant by her Order. it was probably better that he didn't draw the conclusion that she was an Old Blood. While some of the Rebuilders harbored their own feelings of resentment toward her kind, she noticed that it was the Raiders that were the most vocal and the most aggressive about their displeasure of them being around. So, she simply nodded. She wouldn't press him for more of an understanding. She cleared her throat, and rolled out a velvet cloth with some very expensive looking trinkets. Mostly jewelry, but there were a few other valuable amongst her belongings. There was a common trend, however. There were plenty of sapphires to be had. She looked up at him, as he explained what he was purchasing the jewelry for. " Lady troubles," she surmised. " Well, I guess it's a good thing I carry a lot of Sapphires," she mused more to herself than to him. " Traditionally, Sapphires symbolize sincerity and faithfulness. A little known fact..." she said, looking down at her jewelry. Sapphires were excellent choices for engagement rings because of that very reason, but, she figured that Lucas would surmise that. " Rubies symbolize love and desire, emerald... faith and hope." she said, her eyes moving up toward the sky as she continued. " Onyx is steadfastness, and determination." she said, looking back up at him, now that she was finished. " Which do you believe is most applicable to your particular situation?" she asked. A part of her was hoping that he'd pick Sapphires, primarily because she had plenty of engagement rings that she needed to get rid of. And not just that, but she loved helping couples, even in times like this, find that there was some semblance of normalcy was attainable. At his last question, Evie smirked and shook her head. " Well, clearly, as you said, you can't buy her. All you can do is appeal to her heart." she said. There was a brief pause. " I have more than enough rings..." she began, clearly assuming that he'd understand that she meant engagement ring. " If not, there is always necklaces and earrings. It all ultimately depends on the kind of woman that she is, however. If she works with her hands a lot, you might not want to go with a ring because it could get damaged. Unless... she's talented, and manages to not be able to scratch any jewelry. The necklaces and earrings I carry are rather extravagant as well." she warned. Her eyes scanned over the cloth, as she brushed off all of the various articles of jewelry, after hearing that he couldn't decide between Sapphire and Onyx. She produced a few rings first. The first of which, had a large sapphire in the center, and Onyx stones outlining the Sapphire. The band itself was all diamonds. The second ring that she pulled out was a lot more simple. It too had a large Sapphire in the center with Onyx stones outlining the largest stone. The band was pure diamonds. The third ring was a great deal more contemporary, with a brighter, small sapphire in the center. On the band, above the grooved parts of the metal were several Onyx stones. The last was a square cut sapphire in the center, surrounded by Onyx all the way through the band. She looked up at Lucas and gave him a bit of an encouraging smile. " Might I ask a personal question?" she asked, as she started to lay out the necklaces. " You don't need to answer, but I find that a woman's figure is sometimes the best way to gauge what kind of stone she might prefer. For a more curvaceous women, round cuts tend to be favored. Not just in her body, but in her face. Does she have a soft looking face?" She nodded her understanding when he answered. She laid out the necklaces directly on above the rings. The first necklace had a large Onyx in the center, with bright blue sapphires surrounding it. The second was more of a drop necklace. The center was a brilliant sapphire with onyx surrounding the tear shaped stone. A smile came to Evie's lips as she pulled out her last piece, which she added a pair of earrings with it. It was a Victorian set, clearly valuable. The top darker stone was Onyx, while the rest of the stones were Sapphire, in both the earrings and the necklace. The rest were beautiful clear diamonds." Before I tell you the prices..." she said, her eyes roaming over the jewelry. " How deep in shit are you?" she asked, compassion clear in her voice. Some might think that she was trying to take advantage. But there was something about her ice blue eyes that all but screamed that she wouldn't lie at this exact moment. In truth, if he was that badly off, she would offer him... an incredible discount. One that should technically be a crime. He watched as she unrolled a cloth with things that looked entirely too expensive. Of course, after he'd answered her question, she pretty much got the right idea when she concluded it was lady troubles. Not that he'd actually ever admit it, judging by his frown and cleared throat, but he said nothing and tilted his head slightly at the mention of sapphires. He could almost feel merely the word burning a hole into his pocket.
"Rubies would be pushing it." He muttered, mostly to himself more than anything, before he rubbed the back of his head again. This was exactly why jewelry had been out of the question. There was too much choice and so much thought and effort that had to actually go into it. He half wondered if it was too late to just go ahead and buy her a new gun. At least he actually knew shit about guns.
Most..applicable? Jesus. Next she'd be making him fill out a form to decide wether he was worthy or not! "Uh..maybe Onyx? I'm pretty determined to fix this? She's a determined kind of woman too.." He trailed off, glancing over the various stones. "Then again, I am trying to be sincere. I don't know.." Seriously, now meanings had been thrown into the equation everything seemed complicated. Why couldn't they just be tiny chunks of polished rock? Because that's all they were really; especially to Lucas who cared very little for something so useless in this day and age.
Of course that meant he just had no clue so he asked. Because he was manly enough to be comfortable doing so. Though her suggestion of appealing to Mila's heart wasn't particularly well received. How on earth was he supposed to appeal to her heart when that was the one thing she'd be keeping furthest from him? Lucas arched an eyebrow when she mentioned rings but didn't dismiss the thought. Though he couldn't say for sure, he assumed Mila was the ring wearing type. Or maybe she didn't since she didn't seem the type who wanted to be mistaken for someone who'd settle down? Hell if he knew. "Depends on what you mean by works with her hands." Lucas couldn't help but comment, straight faced as ever since...well, technically wasn't it the truth? He didn't mean anything malicious by it but if a fact was a fact.
Of all the rings she produced Lucas rather liked the second one, picking it up to examine it for a moment in consideration. She smile he noticed she gave him caught his attention and he felt only slightly better. "Hm, I suppose. Go on then." He agreed, giving a slight nod and then considering her question as he idly turned the ring he held in his fingers as he thought. "Oh, she's curvaceous alright," A smirk touched his lips. "so I'll trust your judgement with a round cut." He watched then as she started to lay out necklaces, setting the ring he held back down with the others as he thought about the options he had.
"Honestly?" He asked then, after her last question. "I'm hoping this will be enough leverage to get me out of the neck deep shit I dropped myself in and prevent her from thinking about castrating me for my mistakes."

Evie was a little surprised to hear him say that Rubies would be pushing it. Then again, she didn't know the dynamic of their relationship. One thing was for certain, however, if he was coming to her about jewelry; he loved her, if even just a little bit. He seemed like the type that would be too proud to admit that as well. At least, to a complete stranger. "I understand." she smiled. "I never truly liked rubies all that much either." she shrugged. "I suppose that's why I never really had an affinity for picking up pieces with Rubies. Unless, they were too beautiful to turn down." she sniffed, and made quick work out of pulling the pieces of jewelry out that she believed that he would take an interest in.
Onyx and Sapphires... Onyx and Sapphires... It was a potent combination to say the least. And one that put a smile on her lips. It was nice to know that romance wasn't dead. At the end of the world, it was hard to feel anything but despair; she remembered her end of the world entirely too well. She felt that there was nothing left for her... That her continuing on was just a mistake. Her fingers idly moved over the mark of her affliction. Now was not the time to think such dark thoughts.
A blush came to Evie's cheek when he made, what could be mistaken, as a rather crude remark about working with her hands. Well, it wasn't crude, but Evie wasn't the type of person that missed blatant implications. She nodded her understanding, and kept her thoughts to herself. A part of Coven life was not acknowledging those kinds of statements when applied to anyone; surprisingly that was one of the only aspects of Coven life that she actually understood and respected.
She watched as the man grabbed a ring that started to twirl it around his fingers. At least, he had found something that he appreciated. It was one of Evie's favorite pieces. It was simple; classic, yet it still was beautiful to this day. She gave him a bit of a smile as she laid out the necklaces. In her opinion, he might have been better off simply buying a few things. She'd drop her prices down for him; just this one time. It wasn't as though she wouldn't be able to find herself more jewelry.
At his last statement, Evie gave him a small understanding look. She pulled the first necklace up, as well as the earrings from the last set. She put them to the side, and watched him carefully. "Now, just as you have a reputation to keep up, I have a reputation to keep up. I am going to offer you a deal. In return, you will never mention to anyone that I sold you all of this as cheap as I did." she said, arching her eyebrows, making sure to never let her eyes waver away from him. "Understood?" she asked, keeping her tone level and calm. For a merchant, she would be destroyed if she made a special exception for him that she wouldn't for everyone else.
"I'll sell you the ring for $250... The necklace and the earrings?" she bit her lip. "$200." She sighed and leaned back, suddenly regretting the deal that she was offering him. "So, in total, you'll be spending $450. Is that too much?".

Lucas was not a stupid man, no matter if Mila liked to tell him otherwise, and he knew very well that a gift of jewelry was more than just something a guy picked up on the off chance. There were often reasons and, more often than not, the most common reason was because it was a small declaration of the love they felt. Of course he knew that because he'd done it himself before, back before the world ended..but even before then. Back when-- No. He wouldn't think about that right now. Focusing his attention on Evie again, he watched patiently as she set out things for him to look at.
He watched the blush that appeared on her face after his comment and he couldn't help but smirk. He didn't care that he'd probably just embarrassed her, but it was still amusing either way. His attention was stolen by one of the rings she'd put on display and he seriously considered choosing it to buy. But then she was showing him necklaces and he was thrown back into his deliberation. Mila was difficult to choose for and that partially aggravated him. Why couldn't this shit just be simple?
However, she seemed to understand the situation more than he'd thought she would and Lucas watched as she picked up one of the necklaces and a set of earrings. Interesting. She turned serious as she spoke and Lucas actually understood where she was coming from. Reputations seemed to be everything these days; often they were worth more than a man's word. "I understand." He nodded, genuine in his statement yet curious as to where she was going to go with it.
"Four fifty?" He confirmed, looking down at the pieces in question. He wanted to haggle but she did say she was doing a deal, so he wanted to remain fair at least. Chewing his lip for a second he sighed to himself. "Yeah, sounds fair enough." He agreed, knowing inwardly that it wasn't far off the max that he was willing to spend anyway. Reaching into his back pocket he fished out a wad of notes, thumbing through them as he counted to the correct amount and then held it out to her. "I hope this is going to be worth it." Lucas grumbled to himself, picking up the earrings and necklace, since he already had the ring, so he could look them over critically. "You never know; she might twist my arm, literally, and force me into buying something more expensive." A wry smirk touched his lips. "Cheers anyway."
Having bought what he'd initially come to the shopping district for he straightened up and tucked the gift safely away into one of the various pockets on his pants, giving Evie a slight nod before turning and walking away down the street.
